Warm up this winter with a glass of sangria filled with apples, pomegranate, cranberries, clementines, and a hint of rosemary.
I hope you all had a fabulous holiday, I feel as if I am still in a bit of a turkey dinner and pecan pie coma today. The start of the holiday season is always filled with fun, but with that is a bit of sadness. Thanksgiving to me is the end of fall ( I know the calendar begs to differ) and the start to a long New England Winter. This is a hard reality to swallow when you live in the arctic tundra.
To ease myself into December, I need a cocktail in hand. Though sangria can be filled with lots of warm winter flavors, I feel like it is so sweet and summery. So this is sort of my fuck you to winter.
Mother nature can dump another foot of snow on this house, as long as I have plenty of sangria on hand, I can deal.
Winter Sangria
Ingredients:
1 bottle of sweet red wine
1 bottle sparkling cran-apple cider
2 clementines, sliced thin, peel on
2 granny smith apples, cored and diced
1/2 cup pomegranate arils
1 cup cranberries sliced in half
Rosemary to garnish each glass
Directions:
Mix wine, cider, and fruit in a large pitcher. Serve over ice and garnish with rosemary.
I think I am still in a wine and pie coma too! SO awesome of a holiday but it takes too long to get back in the swing of things! I know it is only Tuesday but I could soooo go for this despite the looming wine coma.
ReplyDeleteIt's Thursday.... still in a coma!
DeleteThis definitely gets me into the spirit! Love this!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
DeleteI love the theme of this drink and since I live right where you are, I'm all for giving Mother Nature the big ol middle finger ;) I am definitely going to ease into Winter and the crazy holidays with a glass of this!
ReplyDeleteCheers Jess!
Deleteas someone who knows little (nothing) about wine, what type/brand of wine did you use for this? I wouldn't know a "sweet" red wine from anything else unless it's clearly labeled "SWEET RED WINE" :)
ReplyDeleteI used a Pino Noir! Look for anything that is fruity. I've also made this with white wine, and for that you can use a Riesling.
DeleteThis is such a pretty drink!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda!
DeleteThis is such a festive drink! Your photos are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Lauren!
DeleteI LOVE this! I wonder how well it will go with the new Gallo holiday blends. I'll definitely give it a try! Pinning
ReplyDeleteI bet it would be great!
DeleteI love snow but probably mostly because we never have any. I can see how that would be depressing if you had to actually have it all winter... But than this sangria would help anyone beat the winter blues! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOH my gosh, I hate it so much. I know hate is strong word, but I really mean it haha.
DeleteI love this festive looking sangria. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteI made this and it was fantastic! I doubled the recipe to use in my large mason jar jug and used two bottles of sweet red wine from Trader Joes. It was a really nice wine ~ Surprisingly, it was not too sweet and my guests loved it. I look forward to making this again.
ReplyDeleteI got mine at TJ's too! It was really a yummy wine, and only $7. I have to go back and get more.
DeleteCan this be made the night before?
ReplyDeleteHi there! I know this is kinda off topic however I'd figured I'd ask.
