Blueberry and Nectarine Sangria with Thyme and My Life in 10

It has been a bit since I've done an update on life. As always things are a hot mess around here, or as I like to call it "organized chaos." It makes me feel better by saying it that way, like I do have a grip some of the time. Though really,  all things are over my head and out of my control. So here is a little round up of my life lately.

1) Some of you have been asking about and following with what has been going on with  Chase. He had a neurology appointment last week and she  is optimistic that he may grow out of his tics, and that we should continue what we are doing, add in some therapy and meet back up after school starts to see how he has progressed. I've already noticed a major decrease the last two weeks. I think it's because he can get outside and burn some of that pent up energy he always has. We also had a major break through... I found him one night in the bathroom.... brushing his teeth!! You don't know what kind of small victory that was. I didn't have to hold him down and force a brush into his mouth. It's nice getting a break from being mean mama once in awhile. Not hearing "I don't like you mama!" which is usually how it goes right before bedtime each night.
Chase mid tic (rubbing his ear on his shoulder) during soccer. Luckily that was one of the last days I've noticed him doing that!
2) Spring soccer season is coming to end. I can't say I'll miss it and am dreading it's return in the fall. I know the boys love it, and I do enjoy watching them. However hanging out with the other parents gives me hives. Not joking... seriously I get freaking anxiety over having to socialize with the perfect suburban house wives.

3) My sister is getting M A R R I E D. Seriously what the f***?! She's still only 6 years old in my mind. Not only did she just get engaged last month.... the wedding is in a few weeks. Guess who is on wedding planning duty?? My mom and I. We are stressed the hell out, but we will bend over backwards to make my sister's day fun, happy, and everything she wants. If you follow me on Pinterest, I'm sure you have seen the slew of backyard wedding pins. *Sorry*

4) I've been in landscaping gardening mode for weeks now at our house. The place is so overgrown it's not even funny. The house was bank owned and empty for 5 years prior to us purchasing it. So as you can imagine, the once professional landscaped property is a mess!

5) I bought a new ride! Seriously, I'm that person who is obsessed with vehicles. My husband is a manger of a dealership.... so we have a thing for nice shiny cars. He recently traded in for a BMW 5 series, and I got myself the mac daddy of trucks. The thing is rolling on blinged out 20's, sun roof, leather, all kinds of techy fancy stuff I don't understand how to use. Seriously... it has apps... just like my phone. It is kind of wonderful. Though I get some strange looks driving around the suburbs in a big black truck with lots of chrome on it.... most mom's drive BMW or Lexus SUVs around here. I'm just far too cool for that!

6) I'm revisiting my obsession for this soup. It's pretty much the best food ever created on this earth.

7) I'm obsessed with LOFT these days. I know it's nothing new to most of you, but this country
bumpkin never heard of the store until recently. I've already made 3 big online purchases in the last month. My summer wardrobe is CUTE and super affordable.

8) Hubby recently got another raise that was unexpected. He celebrated by buying ME flowers. He's a keeper for sure!

9) I've been getting a ton of compliments on my long dark hair lately. But I can't lie... I miss my short blonde style a bit. What do you think? Blonde or Dark Brown/almost black?

An oldie from KAF Blog and Bake

I'm still pumped over PW!
10) I made this sangria after a long day of working in the yard and man did I deserve it. High five to me.
Dry white wine mixed with thyme syrup and fresh fruit is the perfect way to cool off and wind down on hot summer night.

Blueberry and Nectarine Sangria with Thyme

1 bottle of dry white wine
1/4 cup thyme syrup (recipe to follow)
2 nectarines pitted and sliced thin
1 cup of fresh blueberries
Fresh thyme to garnish drinks

Mix wine, syrup, nectarines and berries together in a large pitcher, allow to sit overnight in the refrigerator.
Serve over ice, garnish with fresh thyme.
Recipe for Thyme Syrup:
1 cup of sugar
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice
5 springs of fresh thyme
Stir everything together in a sauce pan over medium  heat and bring to a low boil. Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Allow to cool, then strain. Can keep in the refrigerator for up to one week.

  1. I love the idea of using thyme in a summer sangria! And nectarines just may be my favorite fruit ~Vijay

    1. I love thyme is so many cocktails! Probably one of my favorite uses of an herb lol!

  2. You look beautiful in any hair, but ALWAYS go with the style that makes YOU feel the most comfortable and attractive. I'm guessing your "keeper" would agree. And, not to freak you out or anything, but you are the "perfect mom" we would all get hives of anxiety about. Have a great summer!

    1. Awww seriously sweetest comment of the week. Thank you :)

  3. Carrie, I love both hairstyles - you can rock any look that you want! You are one bad ass, fabulous lady. And fuggedabout all of those "perfect" suburban moms. You are cool and awesome and shouldn't let anyone make you feel any less. I'm glad to hear that things with Chase are going better. I can't even imagine how much stress you're under. You definitely deserve this amazing sangria. I need to get in on this thyme syrup. Yum!

    1. You always have the kindest words Nancy. Thanks a bunch!

  4. I love your dark hair but both are gorg! Asher HATES brushing his teeth. I dream of the day I find him brushing them on his own!!

    1. Thanks Liz!! Uhhhg Chase has some sensory issues and he can't deal with the tooth brush... he's 5 and it's getting bad. He's strong and sometimes fights me on it.

  5. This drink sounds amazing! I have been dying to try some new summer drinks!

  6. I love this sangria! I have a mild obsession with thyme. And, I am a blonde kinda gal myself ... but the dark brown is really edgy and cute too :)

  7. Wow you are one busy lady! Planning a wedding in only a few weeks...crazy talk! I love this sangria. Herbs, fruit, and wine mixed together, so refreshing!

  8. Ok, first off what is with these suburban moms? I know I am new to this whole mom thing but mom shaming is not cool! It is always like they are trying to one up the other one. I cannot deal.
Secondly, the Loft these days has been rocking it. I just spent waaaay too much money there on the Lou & Grey line. I don't know why but I definitely needed the black lace drawstring pants!
Your hair is gorg either way. I have always wanted to go dark but been too chicken so I am living through you!

  9. Your sangria looks perfectly refreshing! Thanks for sharing!!!! I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one with "organized chaos" I feel like it makes being an old lady worth it all, when we will have time to look back and reflect on our busy lives! So glad to hear Chase is making progress, I know how stressful those things can be but he will get there. Lastly, you look fantastic with way! More edgy, striking with the darker hair, girl next door sweet with the blonde yet equally beautiful. How about lighter in Summer and darker in Fall? I know, upkeep and damage but I love them both!!

  10. That gorgeous sangria is making my mouth water!!!
